Germany Advances to Quarters

In a thrilling match filled with VAR controversy, the pair assisted Germany in defeating a determined Danish team to go to the Euro 2024 quarterfinals.

Germany overcame Denmark 2-0 in the second half thanks to goals from Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala, securing Germany's passage to the Euro 2024 quarterfinals.

Nico Schlotterbeck's stunning header appeared to have given the Germans the lead in the fourth minute, but referee Michael Oliver disallowed it after noticing Joshua Kimmich had stopped Skov Olsen just minutes earlier. The match was delayed for twenty-five minutes owing to a thunderstorm, but the underdogs returned just when it appeared that Julian Nagelsmann's team would easily defeat the Danes.

Joachim Andersen's deft finish was disallowed by VAR just after halftime for offside in the build-up. A few minutes later, the Crystal Palace player gave up a penalty, which Havertz scored in the 53rd minute. Fifteen minutes later, Jamal Musiala dashed off to score his third goal of the competition, adding insult to injury.

As the tournament hosts, Denmark, who drew all three of their group stage matches, will regret Rasmus Hojlund's missed opportunities in either half. In the final eight, Germany will face the victor of Georgia and Spain.

Manuel Neuer, goalkeeper and defense (8/10):

He skillfully spread out to prevent Hojlund from scoring, and in the second half, he made a crucial stop to keep the Manchester United striker at bay. It was a strong presentation.

Kimmich Joshua (6/10):

He had to have been more astute in blocking Skov Olsen, as Schlotterbeck's header was disallowed. Has performed more admirably.

Antonio Rudiger: 8 out of 10

Throughout the evening, he demonstrated why he is among the world's best defenders by making a critical block to stop Christian Eriksen's goal-bound attempt.

7/10 for Nico Schlotterbeck:

He replaced the banned Jonathan Tah and was unlucky to see his effort ruled off after failing to score a headed goal in the first four minutes. He is an aerial threat, but he might be unable to hold his position for the upcoming match.

David Raum (7/10):

They took Max Mittelstadt's spot in the starting lineup and immediately showed quick reflexes and an attacking mindset. Add a few cute crosses to the box as well.

Robert Andrich, midfield (5/10):

Occasionally appeared caught off guard and committed some amateurish fouls in hazardous situations. He might not be guaranteed a spot in the quarterfinals.

Toni Kroos (7 out of 10):

He could exert more control over the game than he would have wanted, but as the game went on, he got better. We'll hear his curtain call a little bit longer.

Gundogan Ilkay (7/10):

The seasoned professional has several years left in him. The 33-year-old was unlucky to be brought off shortly after the hour mark since he was nimble and had reasonable ball control.

Leroy Sane's attack (6/10):

Denmark had a few issues with his quickness, vitality, and directness, but there were moments when he needed to pass the ball to his teammates more quickly.

Kai Havertz (8 out of 10):

The Arsenal player would have scored a hat-trick on a different night. He took his penalty brilliantly, with incredible talent, but passed up the opportunity to extend his team's lead and had another excellent opportunity. Gave his game a lot of effort that evening.

Musiala Jamal (7/10):

Every time the 21-year-old touched the ball, there was a buzz of energy, and he scored his goal with style to give his team some breathing room. He may not always be at his best, but he can still be a tremendous handful.

Subs & Emre Can, Manager (7/10):

Strengthened Germany's defense when they entered the match.

Fullkrug, Niclas (6/10):

Having the striker off the bench provides Germany with more directness. Thus, he's a terrific choice.

Wirtz Florian (7/10):

Not far from scoring in a brief but encouraging cameo after entering the game. They had a goal disallowed at the last second.

Henrichs, Benjamin (6/10):

Too little time to have an effect.

Anton Waldemar (N/A):

Wasn't on long enough for me to become engaged.

7/10 Julian Nagelsmann:

Three adjustments were made to the team that drew with Switzerland, and it helped them as they got better against the Danes. Attacked stuck with Havertz, and it worked.
