Barcelona: Funds Available for Nico Williams Transfer (Reports)

What happened?
The 21-year-old winger is now attracting attention for his country at Euro 2024. A string of excellent performances has helped La Roja advance to the competition's semi-finals, earning admiring glances from all over Europe.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Williams has declared that he intends to stay in Bilbao for the foreseeable future, but this has done little to quell the conjecture that he continues to fuel. Leading Premier League clubs are thought to be interested in signing the youngster, with Barcelona also in the running.

Although the Blaugrana have had difficulty closing significant deals recently—Lionel Messi left Camp Nou in 2021 because there was insufficient money for a new contract—Laporta is adamant that the Catalan powerhouses can afford Williams. He stated on Catalunya Radio that Nico has the responsibility for it. We are completing the tasks that [Hansi] Flick has requested of us. We have the money now to sign Nico Williams. We can handle a signing such as Nico's.

What's Next?
Williams, who has become one of Europe's most intriguing attackers, would join Spain teammate Lamine Yamal in Barcelona upon completing any transfer; Yamal, a 16-year-old wonderkid, is another player who is expected to make waves at the European Championship.
