Chelsea Defender Faces Uncertain Future After Maresca Appointment

Chelsea's New Manager Enzo Maresca Faces Big Decision

One player at Chelsea may have a short career there now that Enzo Maresca has joined the team.

After leading the Foxes back to the Premier League at the first attempt, the former Leicester City manager took over for Mauricio Pochettino.

Having served as one of Pep Guardiola's assistant managers at Manchester City, Maresca has already added new players to his roster during the summer transfer window.

Marc Guiu joined from Barcelona, Tosin Adarabioyo joined on a free transfer from Fulham, and Omari Kellyman moved from Villa Park to Stamford Bridge. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Maresca were reunited following Chelsea and Leicester's £30 million agreement.

Chelsea still needs to let go of players because so many new players are joining, and some players have been rumored to be leaving.

Ben Chilwell, a left-back, is one player whose future is unknown, according to The Telegraph, just one day after Maresca's official arrival at the team.

The former Leicester player signed a new deal in April 2023, was later named vice-captain, and led the team against Liverpool in the 2024 EFL Cup final.

After appearing in just one of Chelsea's previous ten Premier League games, Chilwell was left off of Gareth Southgate's roster for England's Euro 2024 campaign. He was observed in training early on, trying to lock down his place at Stamford Bridge.

Another player whose uncertain future is Conor Gallagher, an England international, who is being pursued by rivals Tottenham despite their high-profile acquisition of Leeds star Archie Gray.

Wayne Rooney acknowledged that he was surprised that Chilwell wasn't selected for this summer's tournament, given that England is currently trying to find a natural left-back.

For the sake of having a left-footed player present, he said on the BBC broadcast, "I was amazed and shocked that Ben Chilwell didn't get picked."

"He is a Chelsea player who has excelled for England in the past."I was shocked that he wasn't chosen because he is a capable left-back who has competed in competitions.
