While celebrating their Copa America victory, Enzo and some of his Argentina teammates were captured on camera chanting a song disparaging the France national team.
The song in issue has drawn criticism for being both racist and transphobic because it makes several references to the African ancestry of French players and insults transgender people.
In response to what it describes as "racially offensive and discriminatory remarks" made by Argentina players, the French Football Federation has declared that it will be bringing a lawsuit.
Enzo has expressed regret for his actions on social media.
"The song includes highly offensive language, and there is no excuse for these words," he stated.
"I apologize for getting sucked into the excitement of our Copa America celebrations, and I stand against discrimination in all its manifestations.
"Those words, those moments, and that film don't represent my values or personality.
"I am truly sorry."
Chelsea declared in a statement that they had initiated disciplinary action.
What was said by Chelsea?
The statement said, "Chelsea Football Club finds all discriminatory behavior completely unacceptable."
We take great pride in being an inclusive, diverse club that welcomes members of all groups, identities, and cultures.
"We value and accept our player's public apologies and will take this as a teaching moment.
"There will be an internal disciplinary procedure initiated by the Club."
However, several of Enzo's Chelsea teammates are furious with him for what he did.
"Football in 2024: uninhibited racism" is how Wesley Fofana reshared the video on X.
According to other reports, at least three Chelsea players, including Fofana, have reportedly unfollowed Enzo on Instagram.
Many Chelsea supporters have also demanded that the team sell Enzo, as have followers from other teams.
