Gareth Southgate has been advised to be courageous and remove Harry Kane from the England squad before their Euro 2024 quarter-final match against Switzerland. The player has been informed that his poor form is a significant factor in the team's struggle and that his inconsistent performances could result in his sale to Bayern Munich this summer.
The Three Lions have advanced to the last eight European Championships this summer. On Saturday, they will face the Swiss in a match for a spot in the semi-finals. However, criticism of Southgate and his team has never been more pronounced, even though they have a strong chance of reaching back-to-back finals in the Euros and have advanced to a fourth consecutive quarter-final at a major tournament.
Both fans and pundits have harshly criticized Southgate for his inability to overhaul a stagnant Three Lions team and for his sluggish response time when utilizing his substitutes bench. Slovakia would have terminated their campaign immediately at the last-16 stage had it not been for a sensational last-gasp miracle strike by the otherwise out-of-sorts Jude Bellingham on Sunday.
The clamor for Southgate to alter his team composition is at an all-time high as the match against the Swiss approaches. To achieve this, Alan Shearer has requested three modifications and identified the individual he anticipates will replace the suspended Marc Guehi.
Consequently, despite his outstanding record as England's manager, calls that Southgate should face the sack are still vociferous given the way he has performed thus far in this tournament of particular cause for concern.
But, Didi Hamann, a former Liverpool midfielder, has urged Southgate to be even bolder by benching captain Kane, calling him a "tap-in merchant" and explaining to Gambling Zone why his performances don't do much to help the Three Lions cause. Shearer wants players like Anthony Gordon and Cole Palmer added to the starting XI.
"I mentioned a week ago that I would be sweating buckets if I was employed at Bayern and saw Kane's exploits for England," the 59-time Germany cap holder added.
England appeared much more threatening once [Ollie] Watkins entered the game. His ability to break free gave him several opportunities in the first five minutes.
"Kane is not a running back. He can't make the same kind of runs as Watkins, but I'm sure he would love to be able to.
Although Kane is the team's all-time leading goalscorer with two goals thus far at Euro 2024, Hamann is confident that the team's poor performance is primarily due to his performances.
Although Kane is known for his ability to come off the bench, he only had two touches in the first half of the match against Serbia. He is incredibly stilted. The lack of pace in your center forward makes your game too predictable, making things more complicated for your squad.
To prevent other players from taking advantage of your focal point, you need them to run. They need to do more. Kane's immobile nature contributes to England's lackluster performance.
