England's Rice mulls breaking sobriety vow for Euro 2024 title

Glory at Euro 2024 is just one step away for England.

Declan Rice, an Arsenal player, has promised that if England wins Euro 2024, he will do something he has never done.

Ollie Watkins' 90th-minute goal gave England a 2-1 victory over the Netherlands on Wednesday, but Gareth Southgate's team once again left it late in that match.

They will thus play Spain, the victors in 2008 and 2012, in the Olympiastadion in Berlin on Sunday night.

Midfielder Rice pledged to have his first real beer ahead of the final if England wins the trophy.

"I remember saying that (before the last final)," he said to the Daily Mail. I've had a beer ever since, but I had it with some lemonade!

"I'll have a good beer if we win. I'll probably have to cover my nose because I'm allergic to the smell.

Rice also talked about Prince William's inspirational speech to the England team at St George's Park.

"When Prince William came into St George's Park, he said that it would be a rollercoaster and that this tournament is brutal," the 25-year-old continued.

That has been the situation from the very beginning. Jude Bellingham's overhead kick kicked things off, and the pens (against Switzerland) presented another difficulty level.

"We're in another final now," he said. We have such a strong bond. What a Wednesday night it was. It meant everything and was incredibly moving. It feels as unique as it did the last time I was in this situation.

The Arsenal player went on to discuss how his defeat to Italy in the Euro 2020 final will always bother him.

"Watching Italy lift that trophy will haunt me forever," stated Rice. Another chance to write our own history has now been given to us. We simply want to do it so badly. not just for the manager, but also for each other. I believe he is deserving.

Unlike the previous time, we now know how to dominate the game and are not going to back off like we did when Italy attacked. I see a bright side to this—we know how to win this championship.

"We've held the ball so well the last two games with the back five we've played. We felt secure once we took a seat again. We sense our strength and unity. At the club level, we have players who are accustomed to playing in pockets and taking the ball under pressure. We're keeping the ball considerably better than we did in the previous Euros, which is a big development for the back five.
