Eddie Howe has been suggested to take the offer and "bring in somebody" to bolster the team because the amount he could get for selling a midfield player is "a lot of money."
The Magpies have regressed from their winning campaign in the previous year. Howe did lead his team to fourth place in the Premier League during his second season in charge and the second of the PIF period.
Newcastle's first Champions League campaign in 20 years was secured.
Their Premier League performance also declined as they struggled and could not get out of the group.
They did finish seventh in the table at the end of the season and won't play any football in Europe the following year.
That should present an opportunity for Howe's team to concentrate on the league and return to the heights they have known.
They may have to accomplish that without a few players who have aided them in previous years. Large clubs are interested in big names such as Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak; Arsenal and Manchester City are interested in the former, and Chelsea in the latter.
Howe has been instructed to usher one man out and replace him; whether or not they depart is still being determined.
Sell Longstaff, Howe was told.
Sean Longstaff may bring in a salary that Frank McAvennie believes could be used to pay for a better player.
"They could get someone with that £20 million," he said to Football Insider.
Though he's not a good player right now, Longstaff is fine. In Newcastle, they have larger goals in mind and must accomplish everything it takes to get them.
Although there has been much speculation linking Leeds and Leicester, it is still being determined whether the team will make a move for the midfielder.
McAvennie believes Longstaff's local boy status means he might not be traded for a better player because he rouses fans.
"My sole statement is that supporters have a great affection for domestic players; the key is who they add to balance it out," he remarked.
Longstaff wishes to depart.
McAvennie believes Longstaff will have been informed that he would be moved on even though he participated in 35 of the 38 Premier League games last season, helping to score six goals himself.
The man has been informed that he won't be able to play football or that the team must sell to make room for someone else.
"Eddie Howe can't leave without explaining his departure and all that, so he will be kept informed," Eddie probably would've taken a seat and talked with him.
