Just 2 Goalkeepers Saved Penalties from Ronaldo, Messi

Messi has an international penalty conversion rate of 82.8%, having converted 24 of 29 attempts, while Ronaldo has a success rate of 71.4%, scoring 20 of 28

The former Barcelona player understands the agony of missing a penalty against Oblak after the Atletico Madrid player saved his in the Copa del Rey quarter-final 2015

Oblak read his run up and denied him from 12 yards, but Messi had the final laugh, smashing home the rebound. Before his mistake on Monday night, Ronaldo had a spotless record against Oblak, netting on three previous occasions.

That is different for the other goalie who has denied Messi and Ronaldo from the penalty spot - Ronaldo has missed three of his four attempts against his nemesis.

Diego Alves, a former Valencia goalkeeper, was Ronaldo's enemy. In his debut season, the Brazilian stopped a Ronaldo penalty, which he did in 2015 and 2017. Alves saves 10% of Ronaldo's missed penalties throughout his career.

The Portuguese are just some who have struggled against Alves; Messi has also failed to overcome him from the penalty spot. Alves denied the renowned attacker in the 2012 Copa del Rey semi-finals but came out on top again, knocking Valencia out before defeating Athletic Bilbao in the final

Diego Alves saved penalties from Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Messi has previously desired to improve his success rate from 12 yards.

"I would like to be more effective from the penalty spot," Messi told Catalunya Radio in 2018.

"It's challenging to work on penalties. Taking them to practice is different from taking them to play. You may have an idea or have worked on something, but it is more complex.

"The goalkeeper also plays a significant role in this. If they guess correctly, they preserve it. But it's clear that I want to improve my penalty-taking skills."

Jan Oblak saved Ronaldo's penalty during Portugal's last-16 match against Slovenia on Monday.
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are two of football's all-time leading scorers, but two goalkeepers outperformed them both from the penalty spot.

Portugal advanced to the final eight of Euro 2024 with a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Slovenia. Still, Ronaldo stole the show after breaking into tears during extra time.

Ronaldo was denied from the penalty spot by Jan Oblak, but he confidently went up in the shootout to make one for his previous error.

The Al Nassr star is frequently compared to Messi, considering their standing as two of the greatest players in football history, and their penalty record is no exception.
