Liverpool Closing in on €70M Target

According to Fabrizio Romano, Joao Neves, who is currently being pursued by Liverpool, is expected to finalize a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.

The 19-year-old has been praised as a future star, and Benfica has imposed a £120m release clause on him to deter any prospective interest.

The Portuguese club has experienced substantial success in previous years due to such transactions. For instance, in 2023, Enzo Fernandez was transferred to Chelsea for a sum of £105 million.

Additionally, Liverpool, under consideration for a transfer then, is expected to receive another rejection. Romano confirmed the news on X, with PSG on the brink of a significant signing that could involve a €70 million fee and a player in exchange.

"Paris Saint-Germain is rapidly approaching a deal to acquire João Neves!" Another positive round of discussions is scheduled for today. PSG intends to secure it next week.

After the €70 million fee was paid, the contract details were discussed, as well as the players that Benfica should include, such as Renato Sánches. Here we go, anticipated soon.

Benfica had previously denied two £51million bids for Neves from Liverpool, according to reports from Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha.

According to these reports, Neves was considered a priority signing for Arne Slot this summer. The club spent nearly £150 million on midfielders last year, and it would not pursue another acquisition unless it was an ideal match.

According to the reports from Portugal, Slot was seeking a player in the same vein as Neves, a defensively-minded, aggressive, and energetic midfielder capable of recycling the ball and playing forward.

Nevertheless, the data indicates that Wataru Endo is a suitable candidate for this position.

A "number six" will be present in front of the back four and will be responsible for a significant role in the operation of the slot. Additionally, Stefan Bajcetic, a youthful player, is highly regarded and capable of serving as a backup.

Endo's statistics indicate that he has the potential to become a critical member of the Dutchman's team following a promising debut season.

Furthermore, supporters should not be overly discouraged by the fact that they could not secure a transfer for Neves, as the Portugal international has only played 75 senior games and 77 minutes at Euro 2024.

These statistics do not align with the exorbitant fee.
