Man City Stunned in Liverpool Target Pursuit; Guardiola Star Stays Put

Kyle Walker is expected to remain with Manchester City for an additional season.

However, reports suggest that a prominent Bundesliga player, who Liverpool desires, will not accompany him at the Etihad.

The summer transfer window has been relatively quiet for the defending Premier League champions, Man City, with the solitary addition being the £30.8m acquisition of winger Savinho from French team Troyes.

The institution has registered a more significant number of departures than arrivals. Saints acquired Taylor Harwood-Bellis, a center-back, for just under £20 million.

Real Sociedad acquired Sergio Gomez, a left-back, for an estimated £8.4 million. Wolves acquired Tommy Doyle, a midfielder, for £4.2 million.

While the new season is several weeks away, City fans may be anxious about potential incomings as other nearby teams are bolstering their squads.

And with the illustrious manager Pep Guardiola's contract expiring in the summer of 2025, this upcoming campaign could potentially be his final as City manager.

Consequently, the Spaniard may require additional signings to guarantee he has one final celebration.

Several of their most prominent figures have indeed been associated with an exit.

Ederson, the goalkeeper, and Kevin De Bruyne, the talisman, have each garnered interest from the Saudi Pro League. However, Guardiola has explicitly stated his intention to retain the Belgian.

On the other hand, there is one positive development: Walker, the veteran right-back, appears to be in a stable position.

Reports have indicated that the 34-year-old may be considering a departure even though his contract expires in the summer of 2026.

Despite this, Sport360 asserts that the former Tottenham star, who has scored six goals and collected 23 assists in 301 appearances for the Manchester outfit since the 2017/18 campaign, will remain with the Citizens for an additional season.

The England defender stated earlier this summer about his future, "I will continue for as long as I am able." It is a position that I thoroughly enjoy.

I have never awoken with the belief that I do not wish to enter. Playing football is my favorite pastime. It is my blissful location.

However, like all actions, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

According to reports, City is searching for a long-term replacement for Walker, who can play as a wing-back.

According to reports, they were reportedly considering Jeremie Frimpong, a talented player at Bayer Leverkusen.

The 23-year-old, capable of playing as a winger, right wing-back, or right-back, had a breakthrough season for the German team last term, as they secured the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal cup.

The former Celtic player contributed 14 goals and 12 assists to his team's virtually unbeaten campaign, but they were ultimately defeated by Atalanta in the Europa League final.

In recent months, he has garnered attention throughout Europe, and this interest has only intensified following his performances for the Netherlands at Euro 2024.

Liverpool is one such club that is monitoring the former City academy product, who departed for Celtic in 2019, and they may be at the forefront of the procession to sign him.

City have reportedly 'dropped' their interest in Frimpong, allegedly valued at £33m, and has under four years remaining on his contract, according to Sport360.

The City may need to start over.
