Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that Manchester United and Atletico Madrid have entered the hunt for Youssouf Fofana, the defensive midfielder of AS Monaco.
After AC Milan appeared to be in the driver's seat for his signature, the two clubs are the most recent suitors of the 25-year-old. The Ligue 1 club's valuation has been raised to €35 million, even though the Rossoneri believed they had reached an agreement.
Milan is evaluating alternative options, such as Adrien Rabiot, a free agent following his departure from Juventus. That could open the door for United or Atleti to compete for the first spot in the Fofana queue.
United is currently procuring their third signing, following the acquisition of Leny Yoro from Lille and Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna.
At the European Championship, Fofana earned his 21st senior national cap for France by substituting in Les Bleus' quarterfinal victory over Portugal.
