Man Utd hero completes SHOCK move to minnows

Raphael Varane has concluded a surprising transfer to Serie A minnows Como, which is expected to be finalized shortly.

Fabrizio Romano and other sources have reported that Varane has signed a two-year contract with Como until June 2026, with the option of an additional year.

Varane will be transferred to Como for free. The Hartono brothers, valued at approximately $48 billion, are the wealthiest individuals in Italy, as they are the proprietors of the Indonesian tobacco giants Djarum Group.

For the first time in two decades, Como has been promoted to Serie A under the management of Cesc Fabregas. The club has already signed players such as Andrea Belotti, Pepe Reina, Alberto Moreno, and Paul Lopez.

Varane's contract with Manchester United expired at the end of last month, as the Red Devils declined to exercise the option to extend his contract by an additional year.

On July 1, the France center departed the club on a free transfer.
Raphael Varane departed Manchester United this summer.
This past season, Varane was no longer a member of the United first team and could only make an appearance when there were injuries to other center-backs.

Earlier in the campaign, he was so far down the center-back order that Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof, and even Luke Shaw were preferred as Harry Maguire's center-back companion.

In recent years, increasing injuries also plagued Varane, and his relationship with manager Erik Ten Hag was not the greatest.

Varane transferred from Real Madrid to Manchester United in 2021; however, his performance in England failed to match his exceptional performance during his decade-long tenure in Spain.

Nevertheless, the center-back of France concluded his career with Manchester United on a high note, as he demonstrated exceptional performance in the FA Cup final, in which the Red Devils won 2-1 over Manchester City.

The center-back, who is only 31 years old, was also linked to clubs in Saudi Arabia.
