After Cristiano Ronaldo made his second move away from Manchester United, he signed one of the richest contracts in sports history.
Ronaldo and Erik ten Hag had a falling out during his second entire season back at Old Trafford, and after a protracted legal battle, their contracts were terminated by mutual consent.
This meant that by the time of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Ronaldo found himself in the unique position of having no club.
His stint as a free agent was short-lived, though, as on December 30th, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner signed a Saudi Pro League contract with Al Nassr.
Numerous stories were circulating that stated he was now the most-paid player in the world by a significant margin.
According to reports, Ronaldo makes £177 million yearly at the Riyadh club, or about £3,403,846 weekly.
With 78 weeks under his belt at Al Nassr, the former Real Madrid and Juventus star's total earnings since arriving are estimated to be about £265 million.
There is speculation that the 39-year-old may extend his contract beyond the summer of 2025.
He has been able to justify his substantial salary by scoring 64 goals in 70 games and functioning as a catalyst for relocating several high-profile players to Saudi Arabia.
Ronaldo is the captain of Portugal at Euro 2024 in Germany, but he has yet to score a goal at the tournament. On Monday night, he missed a penalty in the round of 16 victory over Slovenia.
He has acknowledged that the competition will be his final Euros after a record-breaking performance
Ronaldo stated after the game, "It is, without a doubt, my final European Championship," as reported by O Jogo.
"However, I am not affected by that." I am profoundly affected by the entirety of football's significance, including my passion for the sport, my family, my supporters, and the affection that others have for me.
"It is not a matter of abandoning football; if I were to do so, what other endeavors would I have to pursue or achieve?"
"The focus will not be on accumulating or depleting points. I am most motivated by the satisfaction of others.
