Lukaku has assured new Napoli boss Antonio Conte that he will wait for him when the two reconnect once more.
In order to finalize the trade, Napoli must first sell Victor Osimhen. This is proving more harder than before, since no clubs are willing to pay the €130 million release clause in his contract. Napoli will now lower his asking price in an attempt to draw more interest.
As soon as Osimhen departs, Napoli will engage with Chelsea to bring Lukaku to the club.
Conte and Lukaku previously collaborated at Inter, when the Belgian produced the finest football of his career on his way to winning the 2021 Scudetto.
Conte previously attempted to sign Lukaku while managing Juventus and Chelsea.
Lukaku is not in Chelsea's plans for next season, despite his return to the club following his loan spell at Roma this season.
Lukaku first rejoined Chelsea from Inter in the summer of 2021 for a then-club record €115 million fee.
However, he was a catastrophe during the 2021-22 season, falling out with manager Thomas Tuchel, openly criticizing the club, and underperforming on the field.
Chelsea has attempted to sell Lukaku since then but has yet to find a team willing to pay the amortized transfer cost each summer.
As a result, he returned to Inter on loan for the 2022-23 season before spending the previous season on loan at Roma.
Chelsea returned to Stamford Bridge with an asking price of more than €40 million, judged excessive by Serie A clubs.
Napoli will try to negotiate a lower price.
Lukaku represented Belgium in Euro 2024. However, he did not score as France eliminated his side in the last 16.
