Sergio Aguero says that Lionel Messi has "earned the right" to stop whenever he wants and that it's too bad that the Argentine can't "play forever."
Aguero, who used to play with the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner on the national team, would love to see his countryman play forever. And that's not going to happen. There will come a time when the South American GOAT hangs up his boots for good.
Messi is still going strong at 37 years old, so there is yet to be a word on when that will happen for either club or country. He won the Copa America and the World Cup with Argentina and is still an essential player for the MLS team Inter Miami.
WHAT AGUERO SAID
When asked by Stake.com when Messi might retire, Aguero said, "I'll say it as many times as I need to: Leo will get to decide that, and his decision will be fine by me, whatever it is." I wish I could see him play forever, but I can't. He has earned the right to choose how long he wants to play for the national and NFL teams.
In his record-setting career, Messi has played over 900 games for his club team and scored 740 goals. He has also scored 109 goals in 187 games for Argentina. He is under contract in Florida until 2025, and the terms of the deal allow for an extra 12 months.
