It is said that Arsenal has found Espanyol goalie Joan Garcia to be an excellent replacement for Aaron Ramsdale if he leaves the club in the next few weeks.
Even though Ramsdale made a name for himself in his first two seasons at Arsenal, he was cruelly moved to second fiddle to David Raya, who was on loan from Brentford last season.
Mikel Arteta's controversial choice didn't go over well with Arsenal fans at first, who saw Raya have a rough start to his career with the club.
However, the Spaniard quickly became one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.
Last season, Raya won the Golden Glove award for keeping 16 clean sheets in the Premier League.
After months of rumors, Arsenal finally exercised their option to sign the former Blackburn Rovers player regularly.
Because of this, Ramsdale would probably only be able to play in cups if he stays at the Emirates next season, and he recently said that he never wanted to go through another season like the one they had in 2023–24.
A new bid for Ramsdale is being "considered" by Ajax.
There has been less talk about Chelsea or Bayern Munich wanting to sign Ramsdale, but the England player would still have plenty of suitors if he decides to leave North London.
Arsenal is interested in David Bentley, and Wolverhampton Wanderers has been mentioned as a possible destination.
However, Dutch giants Ajax have supposedly failed with a loan offer after losing teenage shot-stopper Tommy Setford to Arsenal this summer.
The Dutch giants are considering whether to come back with a better offer. The Daily Mail says that Arsenal has eyed Garcia as a possible replacement for the player who used to play for Sheffield United and Bournemouth.
Even though the 23-year-old signed a new deal with Espanyol in November that keeps him there for another four years, Arsenal could make an offer that neither the player nor the club can refuse.
Arsenal may look at more than one new goalie if Ramsdale leaves, even though they have already signed Raya, Setford, and Lucas Nygaard on permanent deals this summer.
Garcia, who joined Espanyol's youth school in the summer of 2016, made his senior debut for the club when he was only 20. He went on to play two times in La Liga in 2021-22.
The 6ft 3 goalie remained a backup during Espanyol's disastrous 2022–23 season. He played four times in the Copa del Rey and the Spanish top flight, but his team was sent down to the second level.
But Garcia was a big reason Espanyol returned to the big leagues immediately.
He became the first-choice goalkeeper in the second half of the season and kept eight clean sheets in 14 regular LaLiga2 games.
They made it to the playoffs because Espanyol finished fourth in the Segunda Division.
Garcia kept his team clean in both games of their semi-final win over Sporting Gijon, and his team sealed their return to the top flight with a 2-1 win over Real Oviedo.
The 23-year-old's skills got him called to Spain's 2024 Olympics team. He didn't play a single minute at the games, but he did win a gold medal when La Roja beat France in the final.
