Mikel Merino's move from Real Sociedad to Arsenal has been held up. Fabrizio Romano, a reporter for football transfer news, has described why the delay is happening.
Merino's move to the Gunners a week ago looked like a simple routine.
However, there hasn't been much progress in recent days, which has Arsenal fans who are looking forward to seeing the Spain Euro 2024 star sign.
Arsenal has yet to make many signings this summer. Riccardo Calafiori, who came from Bologna, is the only new player at the club.
That also slowed down as it reached completion, and Merino followed the same trend.
Romano has confirmed that Arsenal have not even officially asked to sign the Spain star yet.
"From what I understand, talks are still going on. There has been no formal offer yet, but Merino is definitely waiting for Arsenal to finish the deal with Real Sociedad," Romano says.
"It's also about how the two clubs will pay each other, pay each other, and more things to come." The teams now have to decide whether to sign Merino or not.
According to Sporty360, the talks between Arsenal and Real Sociedad are mostly about small things. There isn't a big problem that could stop Merino from moving to the Emirates.
The 28-year-old player, whose value is considered to be €20.1 million, has already agreed to terms with the club.
The price for Merino's move is likely to be around €30 million. With the permanent signing of David Raya, Arsenal will have spent a total of €105 million on transfers this summer.
Meanwhile, Arteta is still looking for a center forward. Victor Osimhen, a striker for Napoli, and Viktor Gyokeres, a forward for Sporting CP, are two names linked with a move to the club.
The next thing Arsenal will do after getting Merino is to focus on an attack deal.
