Fabio Carvalho has been permanently signed by Brentford from Liverpool.
Carvalho was a big part of Liverpool's recent pre-season tour of the United States, where he scored two goals in three games.
The next two games for Liverpool were against Arsenal and Manchester United. Carvalho scored in both after playing for over an hour against Real Betis.
The attacker did not play in Liverpool's friendlies on Sunday against Sevilla or Las Palmas. Arne Slot, the manager of Liverpool, said that Carvalho had been the subject of a transfer deal.
It was said that Liverpool and Brentford had agreed to sell Carvalho for £27.5 million, with a 17.5% sell-on option built into the deal.
Brentford completes the signing of Carvalho.
Southampton, who just got promoted, tried to sign the 21-year-old but failed with a £15 million bid earlier this month. Brentford has now announced that the player will be joining.
The attacker has decided to sign a contract that lasts for five years, with an extra year's leave possible.
Brentford's manager, Thomas Frank, told the club's website, "Fabio is a very good player." If you use a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1, he can play in any of the front three or four spots. He probably does best as a number 10 or coming in from the left.
"He is very good with the ball when he's on offense. He can get past players, slide a pass, create chances, and score from those chances." We don't have many players like him on the team, so he will give us something extra.
After signing Brazilian striker Igor Thiago in the summer, Carvalho is the second player Brentford has brought in this summer.
Finally, Carvalho says goodbye to Liverpool.
Even though Carvalho played well in preseason, he couldn't make a big impact with Liverpool during his two-year stay.
The young player joined the Reds in the summer of 2022 after playing 44 times for Fulham, scoring 12 goals and setting up 8 others. Fulham will get 20% of the money from his move to Brentford.
During the 2022–23 season, the former Portugal Under-21 international could only make eight starts out of 21 meaningful games.
After having a hard time getting regular playing time at Anfield in his first season, Carvalho was sent on loan to RB Leipzig for the first half of last season. He then returned to England to play for Hull City on loan for the rest of the season.
Carvalho has been on loan several times, but he has now decided to stay with Brentford for good. He could make his Premier League debut when the Bees play Crystal Palace at home on Sunday to start the season.
