Carragher Begs Liverpool to Capture £75m Anfield Heir

 

Jamie Carragher told Liverpool they should go ahead with their interest in Anthony Gordon and make a big-money deal for the Newcastle United star this summer. 

He did this by comparing Gordon to Arne Slot and explained which of his skills would help Slot the most.

Last season, Gordon became one of Newcastle's most important players. In 48 games, he scored 12 goals and set up 11 others. When he played on the left side, he gave the other team's fullbacks a lot of trouble.

 He also showed how versatile he was by playing center forward when needed.

Gordon was likely annoyed that he had to sit on the bench for so much of the Euros for England after having such a great season with his club team.

While the 23-year-old was away on international service, rumors began to spread that he might be moving to Liverpool.

Gordon got his start at Everton and did great for the Toffees before moving to Newcastle. However, he grew up cheering for Liverpool, a rival team.

It was just recently made public that Liverpool and Newcastle agreed to a deal for Gordon that included defender Joe Gomez. For £75 million, Gordon would have moved to Anfield, and for £45 million, Gomez would have moved the other way.


However, Newcastle found other ways to get transfer money, so the deal fell through in the end.

Still, Liverpool is linked with Gordon as they try to improve their attack under Slot and get ready for life after Mo Salah. The Egyptian striker is still a top target for Saudi Arabian teams.

Carragher, a former Liverpool defender, now thinks Gordon will do well for the Reds and that the attacker will have the same amazing speed as Sadio Mane.

"I like Liverpool a lot, I think it would be a good move to sign him," the expert said.

"I can't believe England didn't give him more chances." He moves so fast that defenses don't know what hit them. Not many players in the world can do that.

"I'm a big fan, but I'm sure many other fans are too. He plays for a top club in Newcastle, but there's been a lot of talk about whether Liverpool offered to sign him."

It's still early in the window, but there is a lot of time left. I think many teams will do business near the end of the window because of the Euros.

"Liverpool still doesn't seem to have the speed they had in attack when Sadio Mane was there, and they need to get that back."

Gordon has said that a Liverpool legend was his youth hero. "When I was younger, Steven Gerrard was my football hero." "Being from Liverpool, he was like a god there, and he was an amazing player," the wide player said.

Gordon could be very important to Liverpool, but it's not likely that he will be the first player they sign since Slot took over. David Ornstein said on Tuesday that the Reds' top priority is to sign a new defensive midfielder.

After that, Liverpool could try to sign a star player from Crystal Palace, but it will be a teammate of Marc Guehi since the Reds have given up on Newcastle in the defender race.
