Chelsea Coach Blames Predecessor Pochettino for Setbacks

Following Chelsea's loss to Real Madrid in pre-season, Enzo Maresca made a subtle dig at Mauricio Pochettino, who used to lead the team.

In a dig at Pochettino, Maresca points out a flaw in his team that has been there since last season, when Chelsea lost 2-1 to Real Madrid.

It was a bad end to the Blues' pre-season tour of the United States when they lost to Real Madrid 2-1 on Tuesday.

The big teams from the Premier League played five games in America. They won three, tied one, and lost the other three.

Following their loss in the US, Enzo Maresca, the new Blues manager, called out a weakness in the team that he thinks has been there since last season, when Pochettino was in charge.

The former Leicester manager took over at Stamford Bridge after the Argentine was fired in May.

HOW ENZO MARESCA SAID IT

After the game against Real Madrid, Maresca told reporters, "One of my first meetings with the squad was about how many goals we gave up last year with the defensive line very high."

We need to put up such high defense lines. It's something I've done for years, maybe even last year.

"Our goal is to move the defensive line back a little, usually by four or five meters, just to get an edge." We already gave up a lot of plans last year because of this problem. We hope to solve it soon.

WHAT IS NEXT FOR CHELSEA?

The west London team will play one last friendly at home on Sunday against Inter. On August 18, they will start the season against Manchester City, the defending winners.
