Conor Gallagher is said to have been told by Chelsea that they want him to fly back to England right away.
People have said over a year that co-owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital want to get rich off the 24-year-old.
Recently, that led to the Blues accepting an offer from Atletico Madrid for a fee of around £34m. This amount would greatly improve Chelsea's standing with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability rules.
Since then, Gallagher has been in Madrid looking for the go-ahead to complete a move to the La Liga giants, but the failure of another deal has made things more difficult.
In a different deal, Samu Omorodion was set to move to Chelsea. However, the West Londoners pulled out of the deal on Sunday because of a problem with the contract.
As an option, talks are moving quickly over the possible transfer of Joao Felix, who used to be on loan from Chelsea.
The Portugal international is said to want to make the move, so it's up to the clubs to work out a fee that works for both of them when things are said to be very tense because of recent events.
Theoretically, everything could be settled on Tuesday or in the coming days, but Chelsea has already decided about Gallagher.
A transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, says the academy graduate has been left in the dark and asked to fly back to London on Tuesday.
For the past five days, Gallagher has been waiting for his transfer to be finalized in the Spanish city. However, things beyond his control have kept him from doing so.
Romano adds that Gallagher's move to Civitas Metropolitano has not fallen through and that a deal can still happen later.
Still, Chelsea is working with the idea that there won't be a quick answer. They may also send Atletico hints that they are ready to leave.
Atletico has already agreed to pay a lot of money to sign Manchester City's Julian Alvarez, so they need to get rid of either Omorodion or Felix as soon as possible.
Even though the moves happen at different times, Chelsea will only sign the second player if Gallagher leaves for Madrid.
