David de Gea has signed with a new team for 2024–25, more than a year after leaving Manchester United.
De Gea makes a move for Fiorentina
De Gea is back playing football after being away for over a year. The 33-year-old player, who played for United for 12 years, has signed a one-year deal with Fiorentina, with the chance for an extra season.
De Gea's absence was strange, given how well he's done in the Premier League, but his wage demands explain a lot. Still, he won the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award four times, and in his last season in England, he won the Golden Glove.
Now that he's back, he'll feel like he has many more years to play at a high level.
De Gea played 545 times for Manchester United, more than any other foreign player. He also kept 190 clean sheets, which is the most of any United goalie.
As he starts a new part of his career, the goalkeeper will be introduced as a Fiorentina player on Monday afternoon. On August 17, Raffaele Palladino's team plays their first game of the new Serie A season against Parma.
