More and more English players are playing abroad to try their luck.
It may seem odd to say right now, but Jadon Sancho's move to Borussia Dortmund did go against the grain in this way.
Many other English stars are trying to make it big in other countries. Jude Bellingham may be the most famous of these.
These are the best English players playing abroad right now, but we don't want to give away too much.
Real Madrid player Jude Bellingham
Liverpool and even Manchester City were interested in Jude Bellingham. Still, he moved to Real Madrid in the summer of 2023 after the La Liga giants and Borussia Dortmund agreed to pay €103 million for him.
Bellingham played as a No. 10 for Real Madrid, even though he played in a double pivot role for Dortmund.
He became a star because of his great first season with Real, in which he scored 23 goals. FootballTransfers ranks the 21-year-old as the world's third-most expensive football player.
Harry Kane plays for Bayern Munich.
Spurs sold Harry Kane to Bayern Munich for about €100 million, a club record. The striker was brought in for Robert Lewandowski, who left for Barcelona the previous season.
Last season, the former Spurs player had a great first season with the German team, hitting 36 goals and setting up eight others in 32 games.
Kane is still seen as one of the best strikers in the world, and he led England to the final of Euro 2024 but has yet to win a big trophy.
Marcus Edwards Sporting CP
Marcus Edwards didn't stay at Spurs for long before leaving to play for another team.
He moved for free to Vitória de Guimarães before paying €7.5 million to join Sporting CP. Today, Edwards is 25 years old and usually starts for Rúben Amorim's team. However, rumors of him returning to the Premier League are getting stronger.
Caused by PSR rules, Chelsea thought Conor Gallagher wasn't needed and wanted to sell the player to make "pure profit." The player was said to be kicked off the first team because the Blues wanted to get him to move on.
Now it looks like he will join Atletico Madrid for €40 million, which will upset Blues fans who thought he was one of their best players last season.
AC Milan's Fikayo Tomori
The move of Fikayo Tomori from Chelsea to AC Milan was another one that made some fans scratch their heads. Even though the back had shown much promise at Cobham, he first joined the Italian giants on loan in January 2021.
AC Milan made the move permanent because of how well he played and helped the team win the Scudetto. In the summer of 2021, Milan bought Tomori for about €28 million, using their option.
Jamie Bynoe-Gittens Borussia Dortmund.
The newest star to come out of Dortmund is Bynoe-Gittens.
Another young English star coming from Dortmund is Jamie Bynoe-Gittens.
Before moving to Manchester City's youth setup, he learned to play football in the Reading FC youth school.
Like Sancho, he chose to leave Manchester City and join Die Schwarzgelben. The winger is entering the first team, and a move to Arsenal has been discussed.
Tammy Abraham AS Roma
Chelsea had Tammy Abraham on their books for a long time, but they only allowed her to play a few minutes. In the end, he went to AS Roma for €40 million.
The striker wanted to play often and work with Jose Mourinho, the boss at the time. Abraham quickly got used to Serie A and scored 27 goals in his first season. However, he hasn't been able to match that level of play in the following seasons.
Jack Henderson - Ajax
Henderson quit the Saudi Pro League to play for Ajax.
Aaron Henderson and Fabinho, both midfielders for Liverpool, moved to Saudi Arabia together. Even though he was called up to England at the time, the Sunderland player ended his time at Anfield by moving to
The Al-Ettifaq club. He and the club decided to end his contract, so he went to Ajax. Last season, he helped set up three goals for the Dutch giants in nine games.
Atalanta Ben Godfrey
He was a free agent when he left Everton and signed with Atalanta. The Italian record shows they have won many prizes without spending much money.
Atalanta won the Europa League Cup last year. They were the only team in the season to beat Bayer Leverkusen, who had not lost. While Godfrey had a mixed experience with the Toffees, he will likely have a successful future in Italy.
Lyon's Ainsley Maitland-Niles
Since Ainsley Maitland-Niles failed to make the Arsenal first team for 11 years, he left the club and signed with Lyon as a free agent.
They had the playmaker, who could also play right back since he was six but couldn't make a name for himself. In his first season with the French giants, he played 1,432 minutes and had a great time as a free agent.
