Sporty360 has been informed that
Everton and Manchester United are among the numerous clubs interested in Palmeiras midfielder Richard Rios.
The 24-year-old has received high praise for his performances during the Copa America for Colombia, and a transfer to the Premier League is imminent.
Sources have informed Sporty360 transfer correspondent Fraser (Fletcher) Gillan that Everton, Manchester United, West Ham, and Leicester are monitoring Rios' situation, as he started all of Colombia's matches in their journey to the final.
The Palmeiras player, who typically occupies a defensive midfield or number eight position, is valued at approximately £12 million.
In March 2023, Rios became a member of Palmeiras and has since appeared in 85 matches for the Brazilian giants. He has contributed five goals and two assists, which have enabled his side to win two trophies.
Amadou Onana, who has joined Aston Villa in a £50m deal, could be an ideal replacement for him at Everton. However, the Toffees will need to act swiftly to secure the race.
Rios has the potential to be a significant acquisition for Everton.
Everton has rapidly started the transfer window by signing Iliman Ndiaye, Jake O'Brien, Tim Iroegbunam, Jesper Lindstrom (on loan), and Jack Harrison (on loan).
Additionally, they have sold Ben Godfrey, Lewis Dobbin, and Amadou Onana for approximately £70 million. Sporty360 can verify that they currently identify purchasers for Neal Maupay, Mason Holgate, and Michael Keane.
Sean Dyche has designated acquiring a new midfielder to replace Onana as one of his primary objectives for the remainder of the transfer window.
Rios, priced at approximately £12 million, is a cost-effective alternative that aligns with Everton's new approach to recruiting youthful players with significant potential.
Rios is also a subject of interest for Manchester United; however, their current priority is completing the acquisition of Manuel Ugarte, a midfielder for Paris Saint-Germain.
Additionally, the Red Devils are in the process of finalizing agreements with Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, who are both members of Bayern Munich.
Consequently, Leicester and West Ham are regarded as the primary competitors of Everton for Rios' signature. Observing which team makes the initial tangible move in the competition will be intriguing.
Dyche indicated that Everton's ability to generate revenue from player sales would determine whether they would make additional signings this summer.
"The financial resources we possess, or lack thereof, are insufficient to support such an assertion." However, we will have to watch and observe.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin's future at Goodison Park is uncertain, as it is for Keane, Holgate, and Maupay.
Several Premier League teams are interested in him, and his contract has less than 12 months remaining.
Everton is interested in retaining the striker; however, they may be compelled to sell him if they cannot secure him on new terms.
