Fabrizio Romano says that Barcelona will try to sign Joao Cancelo after they sign Dani Olmo.
The Barcelona players are the first big names to join the team this summer. Olmo, a star player for RB Leipzig, has finished his test in Catalunya ahead of a €62 million move back to the club where he played as a child.
Official confirmation has yet to come in.
Even though Barcelona spent a lot of money on the Spanish star and their finances are tight, the 26-year-old is not expected to be the only big signing this window.
Barcelona may not have been able to get Nico Williams because he chose to stay at Athletic Club, but they have been after several other players all summer. Among them is Joao Cancelo, who used to be a loan star.
After a fight with Pep Guardiola at Man City, Cancelo spent the last season at Barcelona. It is a well-known fact that his time at the Etihad is over.
The Portuguese player wants to return to Barcelona, but it's unclear if they can afford to sign him.
A new loan may be the only option, but Fabrizio Romano promises Blaugrana fans that sporting director Deco and his team will try to bring him back once the deal with Olmo is done.
"Can't say that Barcelona is still interested in Joao Cancelo. This means that Barcelona, Manchester City, and Cancelo's agent, Jorge Mendes, are still in touch about the player."
However, there still needs to be word on how they can make it happen with Financial Fair Play.
"So Cancelo is trying to get a deal with Barcelona but is still waiting for the deal to go through." In other words, it's still an early step. There are still people who can help Cancelo, so it's not over yet.
"Waiting to understand if Barca and Man City can find an agreement or if Cancelo will join another club because the plan remains for Cancelo to leave Man City," Romano said on video.
