Man United Hit by Double Injury Blow, Transfer Plans in Limbo

Before the new season begins, Manchester United has been dealt a double injury blow: summer addition Leny Yoro and forward Rasmus Hojlund are expected to miss time due to injury.

Both players were substituted out in the first half of Saturday's preseason loss against Arsenal at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

Additionally, it was established before United's 3-2 victory over Real Betis in San Diego during the midweek that both players are sidelined, with Yoro's injury being more serious.

Hojlund will be absent for six weeks, while the £52 million center-back will be sidelined for three months.

On Tuesday, Yoro was videotaped using crutches and donning a protective boot at United's training facility at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

That raised concerns of a serious injury, and those worries have now been realized as the talented 18-year-old will be sidelined until the end of October.

That would mean he would miss nine Premier League games, starting with United's Carabao Cup and Europa League campaigns and games against Liverpool, Tottenham, and Aston Villa.

Yoro will stay with the United team for their US tour, which ends on Saturday in Columbia, South Carolina, against Liverpool.

He will undergo additional testing when he returns to the UK to ascertain the actual severity of the issue.

Holland opened the scoring for United last weekend but was forced from the field due to a hamstring strain.

He won't be back until after the September international break, so he won't be available for United's September 1 match against Liverpool at Old Trafford.

United must make transfer decisions

It's unclear exactly what that means for United in the transfer window, as the team is still rumored to be looking to add a center-back to strengthen Erik ten Hag's defensive line.

Everton's Jarred Branthwaite and Bayern Munich's Matthijs de Ligt are still the team's primary objectives, though a deal for the latter is much more likely.

In the friendly match against Betis, Marcus Rashford, Amad Diallo, and Casemiro scored goals, even though Rashford and winger Antony were all knocked out during the game.

But in remarks following the Betis defeat, seasoned goalie Tom Heaton downplayed the problems with the pair.

"I think the two [Marcus Rashford and Anthony] tonight are precautionary," he remarked.

We don't want to take any chances because we have three games in a week. Hopefully, it will not be too long with the other two [Rasmus Hojlund and Leny Yoro].

Both have performed incredibly well thus far, but our depth gives us an advantage. They won't be gone for very long, I'm sure.

Accept that to a certain level, and we'll see when they return.

It's all starting to come together. The guys have had a great start to the preseason, with excellent drills.

With the FA Cup victory, there is great optimism and confidence. Now that preseason has begun, we must continue to push the envelope and raise the bar on all fronts.

Sunday marks United's return to preseason action as they take on Liverpool.
