Maresca Gives Chilwell Green Light to Leave Chelsea

Enzo Maresca, the head coach of Chelsea, has publicly acknowledged that Ben Chilwell is not included in his 2024-25 strategy.

The Blues have 43 players who could be utilized in the first-team squad due to the unwavering expenditure of co-owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.

Consequently, it is anticipated that a diverse selection of sales and loans will be executed over the next two-and-a-half weeks, with several prominent figures included in the list of potential outgoings.

Earlier this week, a report surfaced that suggested Chilwell was at risk of being excluded from Chelsea's Premier League squad when it is finalized after the summer transfer window.

Chilwell was an unused substitute for four of Chelsea's six pre-season friendlies, including the final three, during which Maresca made definitive decisions regarding team selection.

Maresca discusses the prospects of Chilwell.
Maresca is content with Marc Cucurella as his primary option, with Malo Gusto, Levi Colwill, and Renato Veiga supplying backup as needed.

Maresca disclosed that he does not intend to allocate game time to the 27-year-old before Chelsea's Premier League debut against Manchester City on Sunday.

As reported by BBC Sport journalist Nizaar Kinsella, Maresca stated, "This morning, we had 22 players train. If you ask them, they all want to play against City on Sunday, but that is impossible."

"I must make a decision because it is detrimental to both myself and my teammates when you train daily without receiving any minutes."

"It is likely more advantageous to depart and retrieve the minutes." We will observe the outcome of the transfer window, which is currently open.

Will Chelsea be able to secure permanent offers?
Understandably, Chelsea would prefer to sell the left-back, who has appeared in only 106 games throughout four seasons, due to his status and remuneration.

Nevertheless, Chelsea's acknowledged inclination to part ways and his injury issues may hinder their efforts to recoup their unknown asking price.

Chelsea could accept a loan fee if an interested team is willing to assume the player's wages, given that Chilwell has three years remaining on his contract.

To determine whether opportunities arise closer to the deadline, Chelsea and Chilwell may need to wait until there is a greater urgency to negotiate terms.
