Napoli Expresses Interest in United Midfielder

                                

 Scott McTominay, a central midfielder for Manchester United, has allegedly been approached by Napoli, who are interested in signing him.

The Scotland international's future has been the subject of much discussion this summer, with reports suggesting that the Red Devils might be willing to let him depart for the correct fee.

Man United reportedly refused to hear offers below £30 million for McTominay this summer, meaning Fulham's approach for the player was unsuccessful.

The 27-year-old made 43 club appearances last season, scoring 10 goals and adding three assists. Last month, Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag expressed his desire to retain the player.

Ten Hag was reported by the Manchester Evening News as saying, "I think we have outstanding players, so they'll always have an interest from other clubs." It was at that time.

"If you score ten goals in a season and perform very well for Scotland, there will be an interest," said Napoli, who reportedly contacted Manchester United to discuss a potential transfer involving Scott Tominay. 

His importance to our team makes us want to hold on to him.

Last season, we witnessed his potential contributions. He was a fascinating member of our squad when we had the sixes, and he could take on a more prominent role.

But Corriere dello Sport reports that Napoli have already reached out to Manchester United to express their interest in the midfielder, whose current deal at Old Trafford only runs until June 2025.

Speculation has it that Napoli are getting close to a deal for Billy Gilmour, a midfielder for Brighton & Hove Albion. However, the Italian powerhouse is sure they have the financial wherewithal to get McTominay.

Does Manchester United need to keep McTominay?
In 252 appearances for Manchester United in all competitions, McTominay has a record of 29 goals and 8 assists, including seven in the Premier League last season.

Last season, the midfielder impressed Red Devils head coach Ten Hag. However, with Casemiro seemingly set to remain and Mason Mount returning to full fitness, it's hard to envision McTominay getting many starts this season. Moreover, a new player is expected to join the team in his position.

Rumor has it that Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are in talks to sign Jadon Sancho, which might lead to the opposite direction of midfielder Manuel Ugarte's transfer.

Assuming Manchester United gets a transfer fee close to their asking price, a move would benefit all parties involved, as McTominay's work-rate and desire are undeniable. Still, his future with the Red Devils could be more precise.
