For now, it looks like Arsenal will have to start over when they try to sell Eddie Nketiah.
There was a summer transfer window where the Gunners looked for a new number nine because none of their front players were regularly scoring goals in 2023–24.
Kai Havertz's spot on the team is safe, but there has been a lot of talk about Gabriel Jesus and Nketiah's prospects, especially Nketiah's, because he is a homegrown talent.
Arsenal has insisted on setting a high price for the 25-year-old England player, even though he only scored five goals in the Premier League last season.
However, that has hurt the North Londoners in their long talks with Marseille about a possible deal.
A football trade expert, Fabrizio Romano, says that Marseille is now interested in signing Lens attacker Elye Wahi.
After giving up on talks with Arsenal, Marseille is said to be "very close" to reaching a deal with their Ligue 1 rivals.
It is said that Arsenal wanted €30 million (£25.67 million) for Nketiah, but Marseille did not want to pay that much.
Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport says that Lens is ready to sell Wahi for €25m (£21.39m) plus add-ons.
Other teams might become interested in Nketiah again, but it's unclear if Arsenal will have to lower their demands to make a deal happen.
Folarin Balogun was sold by Arsenal to Monaco for €30 million last summer. The player had much less experience in the Premier League but had already shown his skills in Ligue 1.
Chiefs at Arsenal might say that Nketiah is worth at least as much as Balogun, but teams that want to sign him will say that he is third choice at the Emirates Stadium and has only scored 14 goals in the Premier League since 2021.
This is also the time of year when many teams have already signed their top targets, leaving Arsenal and Nketiah in a tough spot.
It looks like Mikel Arteta will likely start the new season with the same attack choices he had in 2023–24, which is something he wanted to avoid.
