Ratcliffe Ready to Hijack Man Utd's Midfield Target

Man United is looking for a replacement for Manuel Ugarte, and THREE sources have said that they are interested in a French international player who could back out of a planned deal to move to Old Trafford.

Man Utd had planned to sign Ugarte Matthijs De Ligt and Noussair Nazraoui from Bayern Munich, which would have made their summer deal total five. Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro were the first and second people to arrive.

It was decided that Ugarte, De Ligt, and Mazraoui would be on good terms. Deals were made for five years, with club rights for a sixth season.

Man United is having trouble closing on all deals for different reasons.

Mazraoui's coming depends on first getting rid of Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The right-back has verbally agreed to terms with West Ham, but there has yet to be a fee deal between the two clubs.

In other news, Bayern won't give up their desire for €50 million plus add-ons for De Ligt. United hasn't been willing to pay that price yet.

However, United's move for Ugarte is almost over, even though those two deals are still being worked on.

David Ornstein broke the news on Monday that Manchester United had dropped their interest after PSG clarified that they would not lower their asking price of €60 million.

Because of this, Manchester United have started to look at other options. Martin Zubimendi (Real Sociedad), Sander Berge (Burnley), and Youssouf Fofana (Monaco) are some of the names that have been mentioned.

Today's news is about Fofana, a 21-cap France international who has already agreed to personal terms with AC Milan, the biggest club in Italy.

There is still a big difference between how much Milan wants to pay and how much Monaco would agree to sell.

Fofana is in the last year of his contract with Monaco, so he can leave for the right price. Reports say Monaco wants to get a fee of €25m to €35m.

But even that relatively small fee is giving Milan trouble, and three different sources all say Manchester United is a real threat to steal the move.

Man Utd to break AC Milan's dream?

First, Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany said that Manchester United had already talked to Fofana's team about two or three weeks ago.

On X, Plettenberg said, "Manchester United have contacted Youssouf Fofana's agents to look into a possible deal this summer!" Man United showed off their ideas and projects about two to three weeks ago.

As of now, they have yet to make Monaco a firm offer for the 25-year-old central player.

"Fofana and AC Milan are still discussing a contract that would last until 2028." It's still not clear what AC and Monaco will do, though.

La Gazzetta dello Sport in Italy has stated that Manchester United are looking into a move for Fofana now that they have decided not to go after Ugarte.

The piece's author, Luca Bianchin, wrote a follow-up on X that was even better for United. However, Fofana still likes Milan.

Bianchin wrote that Manchester United was the first real threat to Milan for Youssouf Fofana. There has been no offer yet, but Fofana is open to moving to United. He still chooses Milan, though.

Sky Italia's Gianluca Di Marzio also said that a trade hijack is possible for Manchester United if they want it.

Di Marzio said, "For Fofana, the difference in transfer fees between Milan and Monaco is still important."

A reliable source also said, "If the player were to talk to United, which hasn't made an official offer yet, this could be a problem for Milan."

“Any way you look at it, this add-on makes the negotiations less stable and mostly helps Monaco, who want the player much more than Milan has been offering up to this point.”
