Romano Confirms: Chelsea Closing in on €40M Deal

Fabrizio Romano has verified that Atletico Madrid is inching closer to acquiring Conor Gallagher from Chelsea.

For some time, Gallagher has been discussing a potential transfer to Atletico, and Romano has reported that productive discussions were conducted on Saturday.

The outcome of these discussions is that all parties are optimistic that a transfer will be finalized shortly.

According to Romano, Chelsea is seeking a €40 million fee for the midfielder, but some details still need to be clarified.

According to Romano, Chelsea is optimistic about finalizing the transaction shortly.

Atletico Madrid's most recent proposal for the midfielder was rejected by Chelsea for €20 million. However, they have since substantially increased their offer to the €40 million that the Blues are requesting.

Gallagher is perceived by Atletico as a potential replacement for Saul Niguez.

The Blues has placed Gallagher on the market due to several critical financial considerations.

Chelsea must sell players to balance the accounts after two years of record spending.

Secondly, Gallagher is one of the few individuals with significant interest who can ensure a substantial profit.

Thirdly, Chelsea cannot afford to lose Gallagher on a free transfer, as his contract at Stamford Bridge expires in 2025.

Tottenham and Aston Villa have also been mentioned as potential destinations for the England international; however, he is currently en route to Atletico Madrid.

It was reported that Gallagher preferred not to depart this summer and was perplexed as to why he had been placed on the market.

However, the offer from Atletico Madrid prompted him to reevaluate his posture, particularly after his former Atletico star and England teammate, Kieran Trippier, encouraged him to pursue the opportunity.

After a series of loan moves, he became a regular in the first squad, and he has made 95 appearances for the club, scoring 10 goals.

He was one of the few players to emerge from the 2023-24 season with any distinction as Chelsea endured another miserable campaign.

Gallagher has also been awarded 13 caps for the England national team and is currently included in the selection for Euro 2024 this summer.
