Slot Confirms Agreement for Liverpool Exit

Arne Slot, the manager of Liverpool, said he was told about an "agreement" to sell Fabio Carvalho to Brentford, a team in the same league as Liverpool.

The Portugal Under-21 player scored goals against Manchester United and Arsenal during the Reds' pre-season tour of the United States. He had previously done well on loan at Hull City.

Carvalho played a big role in Liverpool's trip across the Atlantic because Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota, and Luis Diaz had to miss it because they had responsibilities for Euro 2024 and Copa America. Slot praised his performances.

Southampton offered £15 million for the former Fulham player, but Liverpool turned it down. However, a £27.5 million deal from Brentford, which included a 17.5% sell-on clause, was too good to pass up.

Carvalho is getting ready to move to the Gtech Community Stadium. Still, he was nowhere to be seen when Liverpool played two games at Anfield, one against Sevilla and the other against Las Palmas, to end the preseason.

Slot almost confirms that Carvalho will be leaving soon

Slot told reporters at his news conference after the game that he had been told about an agreement, which is why he didn't choose Carvalho, but the club hasn't confirmed it yet.

"From what I've been told, there is an agreement, but I haven't talked to our club about it yet." As Slot said, "I was completely focused on this game today, so I don't know exactly his status. That's why he wasn't picked today."

However, the Dutchman said that Liverpool had not told him that Carvalho was leaving. This happened when Liverpool made a firm transfer statement on their website:

"The forward was not included in the squads for the Anfield fixtures with Sevilla and Las Palmas after the Reds reached an agreement with another club for his transfer."

Carvalho should finish his move to Brentford on Monday. He will leave Liverpool with only three goals in 21 league games, all of which came in his first season, 2022–23.

Liverpool only paid £5 million for the 21-year-old player from Fulham, so they will make a lot of money when they sell him. Fulham will also get 20% of any profit above that price because the player has a sell-on option.

Slot: "Liverpool are always looking to strengthen." Diogo Jota celebrates scoring for Liverpool on August 11, 2024.

In the first friendly of the day, the Reds beat Sevilla 4-1 in front of a vast crowd, with goals from Diaz (two), Jota, and young star Trey Nyoni. Carvalho was not on the team.

A second exhibition game with Las Palmas followed, which ended in a scoreless draw. Slot was then asked about the chance of new players coming in in the next few weeks, as Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi was linked to the club.

"As a club, we're always looking for ways to strengthen the team." However, the former Feyenoord manager said strengthening the team is more complicated if you watch both games today.

"I've said many times that I took over a powerful team, and we will strengthen it if we can and think it's possible." But only if we believe we can and know it's possible.

Liverpool's first Premier League game of the 2024–25 season is Saturday lunchtime at Ipswich Town's Portman Road. They have five days to rest and recover.
