Graeme Souness, a legendary Liverpool player, has spoken out about the contracts of three of the club's biggest stars.
It is well known that Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all in the last year of their contracts with the Merseyside giants and are being pursued by other teams.
Even though it's likely that all of those three players will leave after the end of the current transfer window, Reds fans are worried that they will be able to talk to possible suitors and sign pre-contract agreements starting in January 2025.
Alexander-Arnold is said to be being watched by Real Madrid, and van Dijk and Salah are said to be interested in moving to Saudi Arabia.
Now that the second pair is almost 30 years old, Souness thinks that the money they could make by moving to the Middle East might appeal to them. He would be okay if they reneged on their contracts to get a big paycheck next summer.
"For Van Dijk and Mo Salah – particularly Salah – Saudi Arabia has got to be attractive," he said. "He might play another year, and Van Dijk, who is old, might be thinking that too."
Salah and van Dijk are predicted by Souness.
"The lure of playing in Saudi Arabia will be enormous when you get to the wrong side of 30," said Souness.
If this is the final year of their contracts, I can only assume they are trying to squeeze every last penny out of them.
That would be reasonable for Salah and Van Dijk, perhaps even the same. Perhaps these discussions occurred because "it's not the kind of thing you want out."
