Liverpool's leader, Virgil van Dijk, said that talks about a new deal have yet to proceed.
Van Dijk has become an important part of Liverpool's team since moving there from Southampton for £75 million in the summer of 2018.
The Dutch player has played 270 games for Liverpool and helped the team win the Premier League, the Champions League FA Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, and two EFL Cups.
Even though Van Dijk is an important part of Liverpool's team, his long-term future with the Merseyside club is unclear.
The Netherlands international is one of three important Liverpool players whose contracts are ending this year. The other two are Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Van Dijk gives a report on the contract situation
As things stand, Liverpool could lose the back for free next summer if they can't agree on a new deal.
Van Dijk has said he is happy at the club, but now he has said that talks about a new deal have stalled.
Following Sunday's friendly match against Sevilla, Van Dijk was asked about contract talks. He replied, "There are no changes at the moment."
After returning from the summer break, Van Dijk got some much-needed playing time against Sevilla, where he played for 74 minutes in his only pre-season game.
Luis Diaz scored two goals, Diogo Jota scored one, and Trey Nyoni scored the other two in Arne Slot's 4-1 win over their Spanish opponents.

Later that same day, the Reds played a friendly against Las Palmas and drew 0-0. This meant that they finished pre-season with five wins and one draw.
Some people are surprised that Liverpool has yet to make any transfers even though their team already looks very good.
Liverpool is the only Premier League team that hasn't signed anyone yet, and Van Dijk has said that the team should do so to make the group stronger overall.
He said: "Obviously, we should make some signings based on how long the season will go, but I think they are working behind the scenes."
"The club has my full trust that they will do the right thing by us and put together the best team possible so we can compete in all our games."
"Building trust is the most important thing to me right now. Let's see what happens." There is much work behind the scenes; we will see how that turns out.
Now that preseason is over, Liverpool will focus on their first Premier League game this Saturday at Portman Road against Ipswich Town.
