Mohamed Salah’s Future at Liverpool: Influenced by Mane, Focused on Legacy

Mohamed Salah has reportedly made a pivotal decision regarding his future at Liverpool, with insights from his former teammate, Sadio Mane, playing a role in shaping that choice. The Egyptian star, who is entering the final year of his contract at Anfield, recently suggested that the 2024-25 season could be his swansong on Merseyside. In an interview with Sky Sports, Salah remarked, “Honestly, I had a good summer. I had a long time to stay with myself, try to think positive because, as you know, it's my last year at the club. I just want to enjoy it; I don't want to think about it, but I feel free to play football. We will see next year.”

Having signed his most recent contract extension in 2022, Salah has expressed his desire not to dwell too much on the future, stating, “I don’t want to think about the future.” For now, the 32-year-old remains firmly focused on the present. His goals include moving closer to Ian Rush’s record of 346 goals for Liverpool, with Salah currently in fifth place on the club’s all-time scoring list, boasting 214 strikes. He’s also eyeing a climb into the top five Premier League goalscorers of all time.

Despite interest from the Saudi Pro League, Salah and his family are content in England. The Liverpool Echo reports that Salah is inclined to decline lucrative offers from the Middle East if he can negotiate fresh terms with Liverpool. His current contract earns him £350,000 per week.

Salah has witnessed his former teammate Sadio Mane’s struggles after leaving Liverpool for Saudi Arabia, where Mane now plays alongside Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr. A source close to the situation told the Echo, “Salah doesn't want to be like Sadio in Saudi Arabia. Even if it means more money.” For now, Salah’s primary focus remains extending what will soon be an eight-year tenure with the Premier League giants.
